About Us

This project is centered around makeup; from product reviews, video tutorials to upcoming product releases and our favourite beauty bloggers, we will be covering it all. We aim to educate, inspire and guide our audience with what the best products are, how to apply them and what they are used for. We aim to provide a platform for beauty lovers to gain insight and opinions on a range of makeup products that will be available all in one place.

Our group name originated from the first letters of all of the members names (Chloe Rumaysah Isatou and Maryam).

We are a group of four, first year students at DeMontfort University. What we all have in common is our love and obsession for makeup. Rumaysah is Indian and has combination skin, Maryam is Pakistani and has dry skin, Chloe is Persian and has normal to dry skin, Isatou is Gambian and has combination skin so we use a number of different products to suit our own skin types. Through the use of "Hashtagging" and spreading the word about our project to family and friends we have gained many followers and audiences interested in our project and reviews/videos etc. Social media has been one of the main ways in which the group have been able to promote any content that they have created in addition to sharing with their followers images and videos of products or looks they like or have done themselves. We have blogged about our use of social media in this project.

Foundation

Starting with the basics, foundation is a pretty essential part of your makeup routine. It evens out the skin tone providing a flawless base for the rest of your makeup to sit on. Getting a foundation that suits your skin type is important. Several makeup brands create foundations for all combinations, colours and types of skin at different price ranges. Before applying any foundation it is always a good idea to prep and prime the skin a this will allow the foundation to sit and sink in better to your skin.

Here are some foundations we have tried, tested and shared out honest opinions on.

  • Chloe

Chloe has reviewed Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation and Studio MAC fix powder foundation, click here to view [1]

  • Isatou
  • Rumaysah

Rumaysah has reviewed the Estee Lauder Doublewear Foundation. Click here to view [2] Rumaysah's favourite foundation beside Estee Lauder include the NARS sheerglow foundation (shade Barcelona, Price £30) and the Revlon Colourstay foundation (shade True beige, Price £11-12). Revlon colourstay consists of a thick consistency whereas the sheerglow is more liquidy, both however, adhering to Rumaysahs' skin type.

  • Maryam

Maryam has reviewed the newly released Chanel Les Beiges foundation so if you want to find out more click here

Concealer

Concealers are great for people who need an extra bit of coverage than just foundation. Concealers can target any scarring or blemishes that perhaps the foundation does not focus much on or does not cover well enough. Their are a variety of concealer types from liquids, to cream and even more powdery consistency ones.

  • Chloe

Chloe doesn't use concealer to cover blemishes as her foundation has a great coverage although she does use it lighten under her eyes. Chloe can get dark circles under her eyes so she buys a light shade of Rimmel London wake me up concealer and applies this below her eyes to brighten the area. She uses this concealer as its a reasonably cheap option at the price of £3.49-£5.49 depending where brought.

  • Isatou
  • Rumaysah

Rumaysah has tried both drugstore and high end concealers. Rumaysah's favourite concealer and one she uses regularly is the MAC studio finish concealer in the shade NW25. This costs £15.50- a reasonable amount considering its coverage. Rumaysah also uses the Collection 2000 - lasting perfection concealer - more of a liquid consistency yet still a decent coverage. This retails at £4.19.

  • Maryam

In this blog post, Maryam explains what concealer is and some of her favourites. The post is available to view here

Highlighter

Highlighters work well in bringing out the cheekbones on a persons face in addition to illuminating and making a persons face stand out more. Typical places a person would highlight would be above their cheekbones, perhaps the corners in their eyes to brighten them up, their forehead, nose and cupids bow in addition to their chin. Highlighters can come as powders, creams and liquids and range from drugstore to high end. There are several different highlighters that can be used for an everyday, natural glow to more of a glam and luminous glow.

  • Chloe

Chloe alternates her highlighter between "ELF Baked Highlighter" to "Seventeen shimmer brick" both at a reasonable price, her favourite is the shimmer brick as it has four tones to it, from a deep bronze to a light glow highlighter. Chloes favourite thing about the shimmer brick is that it can last a very long time! perfect, even with everyday use. (£4.99)

  • Isatou
  • Rumaysah

Rumaysah's favourite highlighters consist of the Makeup Revolution - Golden lights highlighter (Price £3), this drugstore highlighter is exceptionally afforadable whilst still consisting of a heavy pigment. Rumaysah also uses the TOPSHOP highlighter cream in the shade "Gleam" a cream highligter which again for a "drugstore" more affordable price offers a good finish. Her next product to try will be the Mary Loumanizer by 'The Balm' cosmetics. Rumaysah reviewed the TOPSHOP highlighter which you can find here [ http://mediaandmore.our.dmu.ac.uk/2016/03/17/product-review-topshop-highlighter/]

Blusher, Bronzer and Contour

These three products are great because they can change the dimension of your face and bring out features that you may like in addition to hiding away features you do not like. Blushers add a pop of colour to a persons face giving them a healthy, blushed look. With bronzers, people are able to achieve a nice tanned glow to provide more structure to the face. Contour products come in a wide range from both cream and powder. Many people tend to opt for creams for more glam looks in comparison to a powder which can be used to look natural although both work well.

  • Chloe

Chloe rarely contours but has posted a blog on a new purchase of the Anastasia Beverly Hills contour kit. Click the link to view more. http://chloe.our.dmu.ac.uk/2016/03/10/anastasia-beverly-hills/

  • Isatou
  • Rumaysah

For contouring, Rumaysah enjoys using the Bobbi Brown foundation stick in the shade "Almond" this prices around £29.50. She also uses the Topshop cream contour in addition to the Makeup revolution powder contour pricing in at approx £4 - this offers a more natural and subtle finish. Rumaysah's favourite blusher is the MAC- Stubborn blush. a coral/plumb shade which compliments her complexion. She also uses the Borjouis blush in the shade "Rose Almond" as well as a variety of shades from the Makeup Revolution "Hot spice" blusher pallette. Rumaysah's favourite bronzer is the Borjouis chocolate bar bronzer.

  • Maryam

In her blog post Maryam writes about new makeup trends including contouring. She also discusses her own personal opinion on the contouring of today

Eyebrows

Eyebrows are perhaps one of the most important parts of a makeup routine as they will change the way the entire face looks if done wrong. Eyebrow products come in both cream, pencil or powder form - it's about finding what works best for you. Getting the right shade of a product is also important so that it essentially matches with the persons hair. If a person has thin or very light haired eyebrows, eyebrow products can be really useful in achieving the perfect brow for your face.

  • Chloe

Here is Chloes daily eye brow routine and review[[3]]

  • Isatou
  • Rumaysah

Rumaysah has naturally dark eyebrows and so therefore does not use any product in them apart from having them tweezed. On occassions, Mascara is ran through the brows to set them in to place and to darken them slightly.

  • Maryam

Like Rumaysah, Maryam also has naturally dark eyebrows that do not require filling. She occasionally will use a dark eyeshadow for a neater effect. A tip for those of you who want to cover any stray hairs under or on top of your brows is to run concealer over them! This will disguise the little hairs.

Eyelashes

Some mascaras do not lengthen eyelashes as much as a person may want and so false eyelashes are great to wear for making the eyes pop and stand out even more. There are a variety of lash styles such a singles, WSYPS etc. Lashes can be worn solely alone or, under a layer of mascara to blend in with the natural eyelashes a person has.

  • Chloe

Chloe uses Loreal Paris Volume Million Lashes as a mascara, before applying she uses her no.7 eye lash curlers. Chloe buys this in black at the price of £4.50. This gives great length to her lashes.

  • Isatou
  • Rumaysah

Rumaysah has in the past used the HUDA BEAUTY lashes in the style "Samantha". She also enjoys using the Eyelure lashes in the CHERYL range. Rumaysah has in the past used some false lashes by REVLON which were highly enjoyed because of the black eyelash glue provided (this does not show up on the lids and so looks natural).

  • Maryam

Maryam enjoys using mascara on a daily basis to make the eyes appear bigger. Currently, she is using the Makeup Forever Smokey Lash Mascara. Maryam rarely wears false eyelashes but when she does for a special occasion they will either be Eyelure for a natural look or Huda Beauty lashes for a dramatic look.

Eyeliner

Eyeliner again is a way in which a persons eye region can look more bright and alive. Eyeliner can have a matte or glossy finish and seem to compliment several eyeshadow looks well. There are a variety of eyeliner colours in addition to eyeliner styles a person can have. The classic eyeliner look many people like to wear is "winged" or Cat-eye" eyeliner. Eyeliner can often be tricky to apply and so a steady hand is needed to achieve the most even and neatest finish. Templates are often available to use to achieve a crisp and perfect liner.

  • Chloe

Chloe is not a massive fan of eye liner unless a big night out is around the corner, if Chloe is to use one she loves Revlon colourstay (approx £6.50).

  • Isatou
  • Rumaysah

Rumaysah rarely wears eyeliner however, an eyeliner that she feels applies easily is the Rimmel "GLAM EYES" eyeliner pricing in at approx £3.

  • Maryam

Maryam wears eyeliner every single day and does not feel herself without it. Recently, she has been using the Stila eyeliner which retails for around £14. The eyeliner is easy to use to create wings and allows for precision eyeliner if you want a thinner line.

Eyeshadow

Eyeshadows can transition from being worn for everyday looks to more glam night wear looks. Eyeshadows can come in pratically any colour and some can be in a palette whilst others as singles. Eyeshadows can add an extra something to many looks particularly the famous "Smokey eye". At times more matte, skin coloured shades can be used to neutralize any dark or pigmented areas around the eyes.

  • Chloe

Chloe loves her Seventeen Eye Palette (£7.99). This includes 6 limited edition eye shadows, from a really pale tone two pinky tones, a brown tone and two different tones of purple. Chloe liked this eyeshadow as it comes with a guide in the top of how to create a smokey eye appearance, From learning this chloe now feels comfortable knowing how to achieve the look she wants. Chloes favourite thing about this pallet is how well it goes on and how long it lasts.

  • Isatou
  • Rumaysah

Rumaysah enjoys using a variety of eyeshadow palletes. Her favourite pallette is the NAKED 2 by Urban Decay because of its unique colour range. She also likes using NAKED 1 AND 3. Rumaysah Also uses the Makeup revolution eyehadow palletes such as the "Flawless" one which are great alternatives and similar to high-end more pricey pallettes. She also enjoys using a variety of eyeshadow bases and sticks by KIKO cosmetics.

  • Maryam

Maryam's current favourite eyeshadow palette is the Stila 'Eyes are the window Soul' Palette. Maryam has quite dark brown eyes and finds that the best way to make them stand out is by using warm toned purple and brown shades which this palette consists a lot of. She highly recommends this palette.

Mascara

Mascara can help make the eyes pop and allow a persons face to look more awake. Different mascaras offer different effects on the lashes although with both drugstore and high end it is possible to find a mascara that makes the eyelashes voluminous and popping.

In the past Rumaysah has used the Loreal Voluminous Mascara in "Carbon Black" However, the main mascara she currently enjoys using is the Maybelline "The Collosal Volume Express" mascara in the "Smokey Eye" shade. This is a drugstore mascara pricing in at £8.

Lipsticks

Lipstick and lipliners finish off a makeup look and bring everything on the face together. Lipsticks are a way in which a person can bring alive or even dull down a look. There are several different types of finishes a lipstick can offer - Glossy, Matte, Satin are just a few of the many. Moisturizing lips before hand offers more of a smoother application of a lipstick of any lip product.

  • Chloe

http://chloe.our.dmu.ac.uk/2016/03/14/lipstick-review/

  • Isatou
  • Rumaysah

Rumaysah frequently uses MAC lipsticks. Her favourite shades include Velvet Teddy (Matte), Honeylove (Matte), Ravishing (Cremesheen) and Peach Blossom (Cremesheen). She also uses the Borjouis liquid lipsticks in addition to Rimmel lipsticks. In terms of Lip Liners Rumaysah currently uses a Turkish brand known as "Emily" her favourite shade is in 201 a dupe to the MAC Soar lip liner. Rumaysah has reviewed the MAC velvet teddy lipstick click here to view [4]

  • Maryam

Maryam is a huge fan of MAC lipsticks also. Her favourite finish is the satin finish as it provides nice moisture but longevity on the lips also. Some of her favourite shades include: Whirl, Creme In Your Coffee, Russian Red, Captive and Velvet Teddy.
