Youtube is a video sharing social networking service ran by Google as a Google subsidiary.


Usability

Youtube allows users to upload, view and share video on its own site and on other social media platforms and through embedded web players. The video which appear on youtube include: Home Videos, Music, Adverts, Trailers, Video blogging and original dramatic content to name a few.

YouTube is used not only for entertainment and sharing videos, but it could also be a full-time job for dedicated and constantly uploading people. If you are entertaining or useful enough for people, getting constantly a lot of views and you have a lot of subscribers, YouTube will offer you partnership which pays you based on video views and subscribers count.

History

Youtube was set up in February 2005 by former Paypal Employees Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim, in its first headquarters above a restaurant in San Mateo, California[1]. The website domain name was created on 14th February, 2005 and the first ever video was uploaded on April 23, 2005. Initial investments came from Sequoia Capital - investing $3.5 million, then $8 million with Artis Capital Management after monumental growth in April, 2006. YouTube was launched later in 2005, and throughout 2006 gained widespread popularity and growth, rising to the fifth most popular website on Alexa in less than a year. In late 2006, the site was purchased by Google for $1.6 billion. Since 2006 growth has surged further, with the website now uploading over a week of video footage every minute and receiving over one billion monthly users. YouTube has been through various design and layout changes as well as integration of Google services and features, and other new features added to improve usability of the site. YouTube is currently the third most popular website in the world. It is currently blocked some countries such as China and Sudan.
